Introduction

Dragon Quest 8 is one of my personal favourites and and I highly encourage you to play this game. When it released it was the GOAT on PS2 and a game you can play over and over again because of the different builds you can have with the characters. Today though we gonna talk about some fun facts in the game you will find funny for sure. Let's gooo!

Fact 1: Some Enemies have very funny names

Some enemies have the funniest names you can imagine. For instance have a look at this bad boy:

The bushwacker

The bushwacker

This guy is the Bushwhacker. The game however took the liberty to call him Bush-W. which is hilarious once you understand the joke.

Another example is this guy here:

A little dude with a hammer ... hmm ... MC Hammer?

Yup. The creators jokingly called him McHammer (Mullet Mallet alternatively). There are more jokes or eastereggs hidden like once of Monster named after the creator (Hori). It's really cool detail and fluffs things up because the game itself isn't that serious about everything. If you're interested in more names, have a look here.

Fact 2: There are a total of 331 Enemies

The game is so vast that you have 331 different enemies in the game. Some enemies sometimes have different skins like the darker versions of the same species but it's still crazy how much effort was put here. The game does not fail to give interesting fights due to the AI being different also. Very cool!

Fact 3: Voice Acting for NA and EU versions

The Dragon Quest series is very traditional if you look at some aspects like voice acting or sound design. It stayed that way for a long time. However the creators realized that it would make a bigger impact (and also give the game a nicer touch) to add voice acting for the NA and EU versions. Also they NA version used to be called Dragon Warrior which they changed to Dragon Quest with the 8th installment.

To be fair, the game would only be half as fun if we didn't have the iconic Yangus lines ...
